A poem for National Poetry Week

storm

the earth holds her breath
and the air hangs
heavy as a sleeping child

far away
thunder rumbles a warning
and the wind puffs
tiny cool-breath promises

clouds boil and bubble
darken and double
and light drops
sudden as a lightbolt

it arrives
stormbreath
stormlight
stormroar

sky empties
angry fistful after fistful
rainballs
bouncing sliding running away until

the earth wakes fresh
the day begins again

Claire, you took me through the storm build up beautifully. You always write exquisitely.
