A Poem a Day 2016 - From the Train

For the past several years I've been part of a poetry initiative begun by poet and storymaker Kat Apel. The initiative has changed each year until this year, we are cast into the world to make our poetry where we will, if we will.

My aim is to write a poem a day, but we'll see how that goes. All I can say with certainty is that today I'm posting my first poem.

From the Train

No seagull squabble
this after-rain morning
no fight, no flutter-frenzy
no cacophany
This day there are worms aplenty
more than enough for all
and each bird works solo
and in silence
to catch their early bird worm

Already I'm editing ...

Hi Claire - what a fabulous idea. Do you read the wonderful Lemn Sissay's (@lemnsissay) daily salutation to the sunrise? Looking forward to reading more.

Thanks Clare. I don't know it but will chase it down. Sounds like a great idea.

Heh! I just (Day 5) found you taking part. Glad you're braving it a little bit differently this year, Claire. Aside from some diary snippets, I've been putting together a little collection for my nieces, on Storybird. Finding a different voice and satisfaction in the new format.

I love starting the year with poetry. Great brain-waker after the pace of Christmas season. Storybird looks fascinating. So many great sites ...
